Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul displayed remarkable defensive skills on Day Two of the first Test, thwarting a tiring Australian attack. Their patient partnership of 172 runs steered India to a commanding lead of 218 runs.

After a 17-wicket Day 1, Australia's bowlers were made to do the hard yards without anything to show for it on Day 2 as KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal hit fifties to put India on top in the Perth Test. The openers took the first-innings lead of 46 - earned through a Jasprit Bumrah fifer - and stretched it past 200 by the end of day's play.

Yashasvi Jaiswal clinched his first Test century in Australia on Day 3 of the Perth Test and also forged a record 201-run opening partnership with KL Rahul as the visitor took control of the first Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
