Bajrang Punia was handed a four-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Agency on Tuesday. The Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of targeting him for having been one of the faces of the wrestlers' protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Suspended for four years due to his "refusal" to provide sample for dope test, Olympic medallist Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia on Wednesday said it was a vindictive move by the government which would quash the ban if he joins the BJP.

Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia received a four-year ban from NADA for allegedly refusing a dope test. Punia denies the refusal, claiming NADA used expired kits. He believes the ban is retaliation for his protest against former WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and his affiliation with the Congress party.

The wrestler also said that this was the government's way of getting back at him for his involvement in the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh,
