Hours before taking oath as the 14th chief minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren on Thursday asserted that unity is the biggest weapon of people of the state, who can “neither be divided nor silenced”.

Soren retained the Barhait by defeating BJP's Gamliyel Hembrom by a margin of 39,791 votes in the assembly polls. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Congress general secretary and Jharkhand in-charge, said that Soren would take the oath of office and secrecy alone.

On Tuesday, Soren met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his first visit to the national capital after leading his alliance to an unprecedented second consecutive term.

In the recently-concluded Jharkhand Assembly polls, Hemant Soren retained his Barhait seat by defeating BJP candidate Gamliyel Hembrom by more than 39,790 votes. His JMM-led coalition secured a total of 56 seats in the 81-member Assembly.

The oath will be administered to Hemant Soren by governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Ranchi's Morabadi Ground at 4pm.
