Chicago's holiday season has unofficially arrived, with the city's Christmas tree being lit Friday as a weekend full of holiday events begins.

Michigan Avenue got a whole lot merrier on Friday night. Mayor Brandon Johnson was among the onstage VIPs as thousands of gathered onlookers stood shoulder to shoulder in crowds that stretched down Michigan Avenue at Millennium Park for the lighting of Chicago’s official Christmas tree.

The 53-foot Colorado blue spruce donated by the Holden-Shaddick family in Logan Square will be wrapped with thousands of lights.

CHICAGO — Blue Man Group has announced that it will be ending its nearly 30-year residency in Chicago. A spokesperson for the group made the announcement in a news release on Friday and said the city’s last show will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Blue Man Group still has ongoing shows in Boston and Las Vegas, and will begin performing in Orlando in April 2025.

The Blue Man Group will have its final show in Chicago early next year, marking the end of its history-making residency.
